It is a phenomenon in which development disorder manifests congenitally only in one side of the thorax.
It is characterized by manifestation of such disorder only in one of the breasts with manifestation in both breasts highly rare.
Prevalence rate is estimated at 1 out of every 10,000 ~ 100,000 people.

  • 01 Although the causes are unknown for post of the patients since they do not have past history, family-oriented pattern of same symptoms manifested in both the parents and children and siblings of the parent with no history of this disorder being inflicted with this disorder, although highly rarely, has been reported.
  • 02 Hypothesis that it occurs due to development disorder of particular artery or other physical factors and, as the result, there is manifestation of disorder in blood flow or reduction in blood supply, thereby inducing damages in the early stage of fetus was presented.

Surgery method for Poland Syndrome

Similar to breast reconstruction, it is proceeded in the method of inserting implant after having extended the tissues by inserting tissue expander into the breast.
